Amelioration of urban poverty, particularly within the slum dwellers and betterment of employment situation has always been the first and foremost aim of Dum Dum Municipality.
The vast pool of unemployed youth have already been encouraged to take up self-employment through proper skill development training programs in various vocational fields under this Municipality.
The municipality is concerned about the status of health services particularly to the poor and adequate measures are in place to address the women and child healthcare program. The service delivery in the health sector has been upgraded through modernisation of our municipal hospital, Dum Dum Municipal Specialised Hospital and Cancer Research Center and opening up health sub-centres.
The overall health and hygiene also depends largely on proper water supply, drainage, sanitation system and solid waste management. Dumdum municipality focuses the urban poor as a target for providing these facilities with all its limited resources, whatever available. To make Dumdum municipality a safer city, adequate provision of street lights are underway. The overall level of development largely depends on infrastructure of road network. Proper emphasis has been given for development of roads and drainage system.
Environmental issues will be further taken up through land use planning mechanism, licensing and other institutional measures so as to ensure abatement of pollution and providing a green environment to the citizens. Dumdum Municipality has already been executing projects for revival of green cover, conservation of water bodies and restoration of the parks and playgrounds through community participation in order to achieve a healthy and sustainable environment. We have already provided the citizen with community friendly resources like Open Gym’s and Swimming Pools.
The functioning of the municipality will be effective and user-friendly to satisfy the need of the community to its fullest extent. Citizens’ charter and grievance redressal will be achieved through system improvisation like online grievance redressal mechanism.
The municipality aims to achieve self-sustainability with hand-to-hand cooperation of the people and is committed to transform Dumdum into a model urban area where people will love to live in.
